Meridian Ranch Elementary Bulldog Families!   (Resource Website here)

February 4th, 2022 kicks off our 2nd annual One Zone: One Book! Everyone will be reading the same book as a “community of readers.” We are personally asking you to make time so your family can participate in this special activity by reading this book together at home.

The One Zone, One Book initiative is a program that invites children at all grade levels to read and listen to the same book. Reading professionals recommend reading a book out loud that is beyond a child’s own reading level. We also believe that you can and should continue reading chapter books with your older children, even when they are able to read by themselves. We have selected a title that can be followed, understood and enjoyed by younger students, but that will still captivate and interest older children.

Each student is receiving their own copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Included is a tailored reading schedule so you can keep track at home. Generally, you will be asked to read around 15 pages each week. Students will also receive comprehension questions, ideas and activities for your family to engage in with this book. These optional resources will be available on the school website and/or your child's Schoology page.

In school, your child will be invited to share what they are reading and participate in school-wide activities and discussions. You will soon find that your child will take pride in knowing and anticipating the details of the story at home and at school! You will want to make sure your family keeps up so your child can be included in the fun and PRIZES! Everyone will be talking about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Meridian Ranch Elementary!

Have fun! When a whole school reads a book, there’s a lot to talk about. With your help, together we can build a community of readers at Meridian Ranch Elementary and across the Falcon Zone!

Happy Reading!

Library Services Overview

A school library, or media center, is a library within a school where students have access to a variety of resources. The goal of school libraries and media centers is to ensure that all members of a school community have equitable access to books and reading, to information, and to information technology. School libraries are distinct from public libraries because they serve as learner-oriented laboratories that support, extend and individualize a school's curriculum. A school library often serves as the center and coordinating agency for learning materials.
